Salts of the Earth

Salts of the earth are known for their therapeutic properties.  Primarily used in the bath, they can also be diluted in a bowl of water for small, local skin or muscular issues.

For most therapeutic benefits, soak for a minimum of 20 minutes is warm, but not hot water.

At LJ Turtle, we use the following salts:

Himalayan Pink Salt

INCI: Sodium chloride

Also known as Himalayan Rock Salt, this salt is hand-mined and harvested from ancient salt beds, deep under the Himalayan Mountains. Rich in over 80 minerals and trace elements, some of the most notable being calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper and iron, this salt is considered to be the purest form of salt available.

Colour ranges from sheer white to varying shades of pink to deep reds which indicates a beneficial amount of  trace elements & iron.

Uses: For therapeutic purposes, Himalayan Salt can be used in baths to relax the body, stimulate circulation, sooth sore muscles, and remove toxins such as heavy metals from the body. It is reputed to assist with relief from arthritis, skin rashes, wounds, and flu and fever symptoms.

Sea Salt

INCI: Sodium chloride

Used for their skin softening & exfoliating properties.

Sea salt is anti-septic, anti-histamine and anti-inflammatory.  Great for skin irritations, acne, and respiratory conditions such as asthma. Sea salt also adds buoyancy to water for a very relaxing soak. .

Uses: Bath salt blends/soaks &  exfoliating salt scrubs.

Dead Sea Salt

INCI: Sodium chloride

Dead sea salt is used around the world for its therapeutic cleansing. This mineral-rich ocean salt releases toxins.   The Dead Sea is the most saline body of water in the world with far greater concentrations of minerals than any ocean (a concentration of 32% minerals compared to other seas, holding approximately 3%). Bromides and Iodine are present in Dead Sea Salt, including other minerals in a dried form, such as Magnesium, Sodium, Calcium and Potassium. All these minerals work together as regulators of cell activity and daily functioning, relieving muscular pain and stabilizing fluid levels in the body.

Dead sea salts are unique in their high magnesium and potassium content. Dead sea salts are low in sodium chloride, which make up common table salts. It is precisely this balance combination which decisively accounts for the salts high therapeutic effectiveness.

Uses: Therapeutic uses in the  treatment of rheumatic illness, soothes psoriasis & eczema, stress, migraine headaches, improves sleep, allergies and skin blemishes.

Magnesium Chloride: Promotes skin tissue healing & provides skin surface with anti-allergic element.

Potassium Chloride: Regulates the moisture that maintains a neutral environment for the skin.

Sodium Chloride: Relieves stiffness and muscle cramps and also maintains a neutral environment for the skin.

Calcium Chloride: Is a building block for the layers of tissue beneath the outer skin’s surface.

Bromide: Soothes skin, relaxes muscles and calms the nerves.

Sulphates: Are a natural disinfectant with constituents of certain vitamins.

Caution: Heart patients must follow the advice of their physician before taking baths in which magnesium is used.
